Just For Starters

This is my first blog for this blogging page, and therefore will remain fairly casual, with a more scholarly focus arising next time. I think blogs are great to share different opinions and views about things, and isn't that really why they have become so popular? Anyone can share anything! For the purpose of this blog, however, I think I'll keep it to fairly tight content. Broadly speaking, this blog will be about things to do with the virtual world (hence the title). However, I'd like to develop a particular line of thought and that is, how is 'new' media changing and differing from what is known more as 'traditional' media? More specifically, I believe that new media is also creating a new audience that consumes media differently. More about this later. Also, the development of new online communities is also impacting significantly on traditional media distribution and broadcasting structures. So this over-arching idea of the changes that new media has brought about will really be the focus of this blog. More to come in later posts!
